|a Wise writes to Sadler, saying that he will undoubtedly have seen Edmund Gosse's article in The Sunday Times regarding the only existing Shelley portrait; Wise states that the information is accurate. An infamous bibliophile, book collector, and forger, Wise collected authentic first editions and letters, as well as producing forgeries, or creating counterfeit works by writers like Browning, Shelley, and Swinburne. He stole about three hundred leaves from pre-Restoration dramas from the British Museum.
