|a The Second Bienal de Artes y Diseño UNAM 2020. Pedir lo imposible, sponsored by the Faculty of Arts and Design, advocates interdisciplinary, projective, collective and socially committed practices as new prerogatives of the notion of biennial, inviting collaboration between students and professors belonging to various research centers and faculties of public universities, as well as activists and members of indigenous peoples to materialize research projects where arts and design play a central role. The Biennial is made up of 10 research projects made up of groups with very diverse practices and training, but with a common purpose; claim the transformative potential of arts and designs on the paradigms of knowledge, research and cultural praxis. "Pedir lo imposible" (Asking for the imposible), aims to highlight possible confluences and tensions between different modes of knowledge construction both inside and outside the academy, to claim unconventional notions of research in the public university and to promote a critical awareness of both the actors involved with the biennial, and the spectators of it. When we ask for the impossible, we provisionally sacrifice the feasible to find in utopia and uncertainty a new way of thinking and living reality. Curator Pierre Valls (France, 1977) is a doctor (Cum Laude) in visual arts from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), artist and director of the 3rd Biennial of Latin American Arts and Design 2022 (UNAM-FAD). His artistic work and research revolves around social and political issues.
