|a The food habits of American reflect inattention to good nutrition. The diets are influenced by availability, convenience and ignorance on the composition of various food products. All foods may be nutritionally rated by adding points for nutritious ingredients and deducting points for substances Americans eat too much of, like sugar added to food, saturated fat or high fat content. Calculations are based on recommended daily allowances of nutrients, portion sizes and actual nutrients in the food. The rating system is limited to giving points but not to a delineation of which nutrients contribute the points. Furthur limitations are based on equal weight being given to all nutrients where some nutrients are worth more to certain people.
