乔治·华盛顿
乔治·华盛顿（，），1775年至1783年美國獨立戰爭時的陆军總司令。於1789年成為首任美利坚合众国总统（同時亦為全世界首位以「總統」為稱謂之國家元首），在接連兩次選舉中，均獲得全體選舉人團無異議支持，一直擔任總統直至1797年，為至今唯一一位獲得所有選舉人團支持而當選的美國總統。華盛頓早年曾於英軍服役擔任軍官，並參與七年戰爭北美戰線，之後在美國獨立戰爭中，率領大陸軍團贏得美國獨立，他拒絕一些同僚希望他領導軍事政權的提議，於1783年回到維農山莊恢復平民生活。由於他扮演美國獨立戰爭和建國中最重要的角色，華盛頓通常被稱為「美国开国元勋」之一。
华盛顿同样是具有争议的歷史人物。尽管華盛頓私下表达过对奴隶制的不满，但去世前仍然是蓄317个黑奴的大奴隶主。在美国独立战争期间，华盛顿下令组织了，进攻易洛魁联盟中除塔斯卡洛拉和奥奈达外的其余四部落，易洛魁人称呼他“城镇摧毁者”；在西北印第安战争中，也和大不列颠王国支持的原住民作战，也因此被批评为积极参与对北美原住民的种族灭绝。近年來，黑人的命也是命社會運動使其和傑弗遜等人物受到美國社會的重新檢討和反思。
