Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington (29 Nisan 1899 - 24 Mayıs 1974) "Duke" olarak bilinen Amerikalı caz bestecisi, piyanist ve caz orkestrası şefi. 1923 yılından ölümüne kadar 50 yıldan fazla bir süreliğine bir caz orkestrasını yönetmiştir. Yaptığı müziğin tarzını cazdan çok "Amerikan Müziği" olarak adlandırmıştır.

Johnny Hodges, Cootie Williams, Bubber Miley, Joe "Tricky Sam" Nanton, Barney Bigard, Ben Webster, Harry Carney, Sonny Greer, Otto Hardwick ve Clark Terry gibi birçok isim orkestrasında yer aldı. Bu isimlerin çoğu onunla 10 yılı aşkın sürelerle beraber çalışmıştır. Bestelerinin bazılarını bu müzisyenlerin tarzlarına ve yeteneklerine göre yazdı. II.
